Does your mechanic use the Honda power steering fluid or is it ATF? Honda power steering is very sensitive to use of other fluids. That maybe what is wrecking your pump (that's if you don't use Honda fluid)

The way my mechanic bleed my pS pump is different from what you have above . But it usually ruin my pump. He usually turn the steering, lock to lock give times before he starts the engine. I think that method is for old pump. .

In addition, there's a technique for combining an open end spanner with a combination one for more leverage. That should help.

So sorry to have delayed on this. My security software quarantined this comment as spam so I missed it.

I know what you mean. That flare nut is damn hard to remove. How I do it is to make more room above by disconnecting the parts that are in the way. A flare wrench is fine but a thick open end spanner will do. I think it's a size 19 or so can't remember. For the seeming difference in diameter of the pipe, was it OEM that you got?

I am having a hard time removing the high pressure power steering line on my 2003 Honda Accord EX 4 cylinder engine. The flare nut location is hard to get to. Not sure if I can even hack saw the line off without damaging something else in the process. What I find odd is the new line is a 16mm or 5/8. The one on the car is slightly larger (17mm i think). Should I get a flex head flare nut wrench to remove this? There is a diagram here https://www.heeltoeauto.com/files/pitboard/tsxproject/004_pshose_recall_bulletin.pdf but they are not specific as to how to remove the flare nut.

Very true Francis. Thanks for the compliment.

Actually this is a build up to a subsequent post on my complete PS pump rebuild, indeed an air or pulley holder tool is required to take off the 19mm pulley bolt. But in my case, since I don't own any of those, I placed a metal bar between the holes in the pulley to keep it from turning and then was able to loosen the bolt.
Thanks again for highlighting that tough pulley bolt.

Great! Now what tools do you need to replace the pulley on the new pump you are installing? The new power steering pump doesn't come with it's own pulley. It would be really helpful if you explained that to people. Let them know unless you have pneumatic tools and/or a pulley-holding tool, they will not be able to complete the installation themselves.
